Glass Artisan to open business in Albert Beach

A new business will be opening this summer beside Saffies in Albert Beach. Lake Winnipeg Glassworks will become Manitoba’s only glass “hot-shop”.

One of the items listed in RM of Alexander Economic Development Officer report that was released at the regular meeting on February 19, noted that EDO Michelle Wazny they had been in conversations with the proprietor, Gordon Boyd and had received confirmation that he will be opening shop in June.

Boyd fell in love with glass working a little over six years ago and left his northern Manitoba home for Ontario to study the art of glass working.

After completing his studies, Gordon immersed himself in the craft working at a number of studios and drinking in the knowledge he could glean from his employers, all the while, continuing to explore glass in his free time. It was during this time that he fell in love with the technique of glass engraving – now one of his specialties.

With his newfound knowledge and skills in hand, Boyd has returned to Manitoba to set up shop on the shores of Lake Winnipeg.
