On March 8, 2020, at approximately 9:20 pm, Selkirk RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 59, just south of Libau.
A pickup truck travelling east on Road 32E, entered the intersection and collided with a SUV going south on Highway 59.
The driver of the pickup truck, stopped briefly to check on the other driver, but then left the scene on foot.
The driver of the SUV, a 74-year-old male from the RM of Alexander, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Officers made patrols and located a vehicle near the suspect’s residence in the RM of Brokenhead. The suspect was located in the passenger seat of the vehicle, and was arrested without incident.
The suspect, a 36-year-old male, is now facing Criminal Code charges of Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Accident, Impaired Operation of a Conveyance (by Alcohol) and Impaired Operation of a Conveyance (by Alcohol) with a Blood Alcohol Concentration that is equal to or exceeds 80 mg%. He was also issued several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act.
RCMP continue to investigate.
