Responding to the current high risk of fires in the area, the RM of Alexander put a fire ban into effect at noon on May 20. The ban prohibits all burning (including outdoor fires, outdoor fires contained within fire pits and outdoor solid fuel burning appliances and the use of fireworks) in certain areas of the municipality, until further notice.
The areas affected are mainly in the East Beaches region (see map below for the areas affected).
The status of the fire band will be reviewed by Council at regular meetings scheduled for May 26, June 9 and June 23. Non-compliance could result in a fine of $500.
A similar ban was also issued for the RM of St. Clements that includes the Grand Marais/Grand Beach area.
