On June 30, Lin Smitzniuk, director of the 4P Festival, announced on Facebook that the festival would not be happening this year. “It is with a heavy heart that I need to inform everyone that the 4P Festival is cancelled for 2020.”
The move was not unexpected. Just about every summer festival in the region has been cancelled and most thought it was only a matter of time before the 4P Festival followed suit.
It will be the first time in the event’s 38 year history, that the festival has been cancelled. “Our Festival board all agree that it is just to risky with Covid 19 still producing new cases,” stated Smitzniuk in her Facebook message.
“The 4P is all about gather people and having very large crowds,” she said. “With all the unknowns and rules, our 4P Board certainly do not want to be responsible for any spreading, so we have responsibly made this tough decision.”
Smitzniuk was cautiously optimistic about the festival returning in 2021. “We will come back next year strong, if it is going to be possible.”
