Series of detonations from July 17-24 will sound like loud fireworks.
Manitoba Hydro is in the final stages of building a new substation east of the Pinawa Channel at Provincial Road 313 and Belluk Road in the RM of Lac du Bonnet.
To complete the work, implosion connectors will be used July 17 to July 24 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Implosion connectors consist of a small energy charge which safely implode to join lengths of powerline. The split-second detonation creates a flash and a bang like a large firework.
Approximately 80 implosions will take place. The times were selected to avoid elevated noise during morning or evening quiet times. Traffic may be briefly disrupted.
The new substation, called a district supply centre, is located approximately 16 kilometres east of Lac du Bonnet. When in service in several months, it will supply reliable power for the growing cottage and commercial development along the Winnipeg and Lee Rivers.
