Fifth active case announced for Powerview-Pine Falls Region

The latest release from Manitoba Health announced a new case for the Powerview-Pine Falls region. It’s the third case announced in the last week. The first case of this latest outbreak was first announced by Chief Derrick Henderson on Wolf FM on October 18. Then on October 21, Sagkeeng announced a second case in the community. In response to those two cases, the Sagkeeng Health Centre was closed to investigate a possible exposure there.

This most recent case, doesn’t appear to be part of the Sagkeeng outbreak, as the Band issued a release on October 24 stating that there were currently two active cases in the community, which would account for the cases announced on October 18 and 21. Five sets a new record the most active cases seen in the Powerview-Pine Falls region since the pandemic began. The region has not been Covid-free since mid-September.

It’s important to note that, in terms of Manitoba Health releases, “Powerview-Pine Falls” includes the actual municipality, but also Sagkeeng, Manigotagan, Bissett, Hollow Water and Black River. It does not include the East Beaches or St. Georges. The Pinawa/Lac du Bonnet Region also includes the entire RM of Alexander as well as the RM and town of Lac du Bonnet and the LGD of Pinawa.

There were 15 new cases announced in the Interlake Eastern Health Region where there are 145 active cases. Locally, there are no active cases in the Pinawa/Lac Du Bonnet region; four active cases in the St. Clements region one active case in the Beausejour region.

Provincially, the 49th and 50th deaths due to COVID-19 were been reported, both females in their 70s from the Winnipeg health region. Both cases were previously announced and one is linked to an outbreak at Misericordia Place.

153 new cases of the virus have been identified as of 9:30 a.m. This number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 4,088.

Today’s data shows:
• eight cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
• 15 cases in the Interlake–Eastern health region;
• 15 cases in the Northern health region;
• 24 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
• 91 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

The data also shows:
• 1,922 active cases and 2,116 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19;
• there are 65 people in hospital and 10 people in intensive care; and
• the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 50.
