Interlake-Eastern RHA flu clinics to start Today

Heightened importance for immunizations this year amidst COVID-19 pandemic

The challenges Manitobans have faced to protect against COVID–19 are significant. The arrival of flu season is no time to let your guard down. This year may be more important than ever for individuals and families to get the flu shot, in the hopes of avoiding what has been called a ‘twindemic’ – larger numbers of people getting ill with influenza and the coronavirus circulating at the same time.

While the seasonal flu shot won’t protect you from COVID–19, getting immunized is still important. Since everyone who is experiencing flu–like symptoms should be tested for COVID–19, the less people that have the flu, the better. Otherwise, there will be an increased demand for COVID–19 testing, and more pressure placed on the health–care system. Getting the flu can also increase the risk of COVID–19 complications for those who catch both.

This year residents are asked to book an appointment for a flu shot by calling 1-877-979-9355 between 8:30am and 6:00pm, seven days a week in October, and between 8:30am and 4:30pm Mon-Fri in November. When booking your flu shot this year, please note:

  • Only limited walk-ins are available this year. Call 1-877-979-9355 to book an appointment.
  • Some flu clinic locations may have changed due to COVID-19. Please check our online listings at http://www.is.gd/fluclinics
