After years of sitting empty, the RM of Alexander has finally found a buyer for the old municipal office located on Highway 11 in St. Georges. “Yes indeed the buyer applied to the RM for a conditional use allowing multi-family occupancy for the building,” confirmed Alexander CAO Don Dowle.
“The zoning allows single family dwellings but requires permission from council for anything else.” Following a public hearing at their November 17 regular meeting, council approved the conditional use application so the sale condition was met and the applicant, Ken Douma is scheduled to take possession on December 15th.
Douma provided an outline of his development plan for the property which is to convert the building into a a two or three unit rental property. “His comments indicated that the apartments would be nicely appointed but ‘not marble counter tops or anything’,” said Dowle.
