Nestled on the shore of Lake Winnipeg, just off of lakeshore drive near Belair, Manitoba is a beautiful bed and breakfast called Pebble Springs B & B. The 2200 square foot home, of which 1400 square feet is utilized for the bed and breakfast, was built 10 years ago. However, Bob Kovachik and his wife Monica kept it their own little secret until a year ago, when they decided to turn the beautiful lakefront property into a getaway destination.
Bob and Monica both work full time at East Selkirk school, Bob is the vice-principal and Monica is an Educational assistant. As one would say, they are people-people. This led them to the concept of turning their multiple spare bedrooms into a bed and breakfast. “We both love meeting people, and we both had a lot of down time, so it just felt right.” Bob said.
The B&B features 3 rooms, the Birch room, which has a gorgeous lakefront view and rents for $135/night, the Balsam room, which is slightly smaller, doesn’t have the lakefront view, and rents for $120/night and the poplar spare room, which rents for $85/night.
They offer a wide range of services and amenities, such as wake up services, home cooked meals, free Wi-Fi and an outdoor hot tub, just to name a few. All the meals provided are home cooked by Monica, who has her food handlers certificate, using locally sourced vegetables and produce. If you visit by snowmobile in the wintertime, heated indoor parking is available. There is also an outlet for those who come by car to plug in their engine block heater.
If you visit in the summertime, you are mere minutes from the beautiful Grand
Beach, as well as Albert Beach, Victoria Beach and Hillside beach. If the beach isn’t your cup of tree, there are ATV trails snaking through the forest all around the area. Grand Pines Golf Course and Victoria Beach Golf Course are minutes away as well. There are also ample foraging paths for picking mushrooms or blueberries and other wild berries. Also very near, is the Grand Beach provincial park, which offers a wide range of hiking trails and beautiful scenery. New for the summer of 2019, Pebble Springs B & B will be offering yoga classes from a certified instructor.
If you visit in the wintertime, there are SnoMan trails nearly right to the facility. Bob also offers guided trail tours for those who aren’t familiar with the area. They also have an ice fishing shack on the lake available for use by winter guests. The close proximity to Grand Beach provincial park also offers a plethora of gorgeous cross-country ski trails. If the cold isn’t your thing, warm up by the woodstove with a mug of hot chocolate.
Pebble Springs B & B is certified by the Bed and Breakfast board of Manitoba and has a 5-star rating on their website. They are open on weekends year round, and full-time in the summer. The facility is also available for small events such as small intimate weddings. The spacious home is punctuated by the stunning lakefront view and is a one of a kind country getaway, and, at only an hour north of Winnipeg, is closer than you may think.
