Claude Francis Guimond was charged with two counts of First Degree Murder in a double homicide that happened in St. Georges in February 2017.
On February 28, 2017, Powerview RCMP responded to a double homicide at a residence in St. Georges, Manitoba. Two adult males, Jody Brown, 43 and Steven Chevrefils, 35, were found deceased. The deaths were determined to be a result of homicide.
On March 2, 2017 Andrew Bruyere was charged with two counts of second degree murder and several firearms-related offences. However, the next day, after a court appearance, all charges were dropped and Bruyere was released.
Then nearly two years after the murders had taken place, RCMP announced they had finally made an arrest. “After an extensive investigation by Powerview RCMP and the Major Crime Unit, 54-year-old Claude Francis Guimond of Fort Alexander, Manitoba, has been arrested and charged with two counts of First Degree murder,” an RCMP release said. Guimond is currently in custody.
After news reports came out, people sharing the stories on social media said they were shocked. “Everyone is in shock, confused and in disbelief,” one person commented. “This is literally going to impact hundreds, if not thousands, of people today.”
RCMP say the case is still under investigation.
