Sunday, August 18, 2019 marked the first annual “Clubs for a Cause” Charity Golf Tournament in support of École Powerview School Parent Advisory Council (PAC). PAC has been busy working to re-open the outdoor arena by the school but it comes with a heavy price tag as water lines need to be reconnected. Additionally, lighting and drainage is an issue that needs to be addressed. The project also contains a component to build an outdoor covered area for picnics, outdoor classes, etc and an update to the playground to add a more natural playspace for all abilities and ages.
The weather could not have been better as 51 golfers hit the links at Pine Falls Golf Course. The 18 hole tournament rolled out in a Texas Scramble format with prizes being awarded to the top team (consisting of Graham Gauthier, Denten Normand, Kevin Chevrefils and Tyler Starr), last team and “luck of the draw team”. Prizes were also awarded to the longest male drive (Braden Demedeiros) and longest female drive (Vanessa Fontaine). After a very challenging “Putting Contest”, Scott Carleton was awarded the putting prize. Tournament fees also included a mouth watering prime rib dinner prepared by Laura’s Kitchen.
One of the major drawing cards for the tournament was the amazing silent auction open to the public on the clubhouse deck. With more than $4000 in prizes donated by businesses, organizations and individuals, people arrived in droves to get in on the winning. Three grand prizes and 25 “smaller prizes” were handed out as the event drew to a close.
Without the support of sponsors, donators, golfers and the community, this event would not have been nearly as successful as it was. As the final numbers come in, the PAC is beyond thrilled to report that approximately $3000 was raised for the arena/playground project. This is a huge win for our kids and our community and could not have been accomplished without the amazing support of volunteers! Please see the full thank you and acknowledgement notice in this edition of the Advocate and support these amazing businesses and people in return for all they have done! If you do not already do so, we encourage you to follow the PAC Facebook and Instagram pages so you do not miss out on any of their incredible events (search @pvspac) or stop by the school to stay updated on events. The PAC will be hosting kids event over the 4P Festival weekend along with a concession stand at the school grounds during the baseball tournament. And before you know it, keep your eyes posted for the second annual golf tournament coming next year!
