Winnipeg man drowns at Old Pinawa Dam

UPDATED JULY 4, 2018

On July 2, 2018, just after 6:00 pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of a possible drowning in the Lee River at the Old Pinawa Dam site off Provincial Road 520, in the RM of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. When officers arrived, they learned an 18-year-old male from Winnipeg had been swimming down the rapids on the high side of the dam with friends when they lost sight of him, and he had not resurfaced. The male was not wearing a life jacket.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team is in attendance and will be diving at the site as soon as conditions allow. The Lac du Bonnet Fire Department and Manitoba Sustainable Development were also on scene assisting with the search. The 18-year-old male was located deceased by the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team at approximately 12:10 pm on July 4, 2018.
