A volunteer diving team has found the bodies of two snowmobilers who went through the ice on the Winnipeg River last November. On January 3, RCMP confirmed that a body had been found by volunteer dive team HEART that were searching for the bodies, but the body had yet to be identified.
However, on January 9, Chief Derek Henderson confirmed to media that a second body was found and that autopsies had determined that the bodies that were indeed those of the snowmobilers who went missing in November. Henderson also revealed their names: Ashley Guimond and Julia Bruyere.
On November 20, 2018, RCMP, Fire Services from Sagkeeng First Nation, searched the area for several hours but called off the search because of dangerous conditions.
