On Sunday March 17th, 2019, the Eastman Northern Knights played the Eastman Central Snipers in game 2 of their best of 3 series for the Eastman Bantam AA Championship at the Club Inc. Arena in Ile des Chenes. The Northern Knights feature 5 players with local ties, Cohen Kemball, Ryan Dupont, Tanner Amos, Nathan Johnson and Clint Thomas.

Having won the first game 4-0, the Knights needed only to win this game to win the championship. The Eastman Central Snipers put up a much stiffer challenge this time around. The Snipers held a 3-1 lead with 2:30 left in the third period, when they took an ill-advised 5-minute major penalty. The Knights then pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, and quickly scored to make it 3-2. They kept their goalie on the bench and continued to press with the 6 on 4 advantage. Finally, they tied the game on a mad scramble in the dying seconds, with the puck crossing the line with 9 seconds left on the clock.

The Knights then scored in overtime to take home the championship. The knights were established in the early 1980’s and this was the first division crown in their history. The team also played in the Bantam AA Provincials from March 8th-10th, 2019 and captured the bronze medal with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Southeast Blizzard.
