Lac du Bonnet RCMP respond to child drowning

On May 12, 2018, at approximately 11:30 am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP responded to a call of a possible drowning in Nopiming Provincial Park.

Emergency Medical Services personnel were already on scene providing medical assistance to a three-year-old male child from Winnipeg when officers arrived at the Tulabi Falls Campground within the park. The child was later pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation has determined that the three-year-old child, who was camping in the area with family, was playing with a group of children in the campground when he wandered away. His absence was quickly noticed and he was found a short time later by family members in a nearby body of water. Family members provided medical assistance to the child until first responders arrived.

The death is not considered to be suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP respond to fatal boating collision

On May 20, 2018, at approximately 12:00 pm, Lac du Bonnet RCMP responded to a report of a boating collision near the Cape Coppermine boat launch on the Lee River in the RM of Lac du Bonnet.
Upon arrival, Emergency Medical Services personnel were already at the location providing medical assistance to a 40-year-old male. He was later pronounced deceased on scene.
The initial investigation has determined that the 40-year-old male from Winnipeg, who was the lone occupant of the boat, collided with the shore and was ejected from the boat into the water. Bystanders quickly reached the male, brought him to shore, and provided first-aid until EMS arrived.
The male was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the collision.
The investigation to determine the cause of the collision is ongoing.
